This cycle periodically turns off the compressor, and-activates heating elements to eliminate frost accumulation in the freezer-compartment. Unchecked frost buildup can obstruct airflow and impair efficiency, potentially leading to damage in the cooling system. The defrost-timer operates mechanically with a revolving cam that completes a cycle approximately every 10 hours and 21 minutes.
